Tunnel View in Yosemite

Tunnel View in Yosemite

I’ve seen this tunnel view in Yosemite a million times online. I would think about how impressive it looked. But I never realized until I approached the pony wall in person that not a single picture I had seen really does this view justice.

From the pullout on Route 41 you can see El Cap, Clouds Rest, Half Dome, Cathedral Rocks, Bridalveil Fall, and the majesty of the Yosemite Valley below. It’s truly awe-inspiring.

Tater, our oldest who is now 5 years old, had our point and shoot camera and snapped a plethora of photos of the valley and all of the peaks as well as the entrance to the tunnel behind us.

As pullouts go, it’s pretty ordinary and the crowds come and go. The occasional tour bus that pulls in creating a bit of a challenge so pick your spots quickly and get the shots without all the background heads, feet, and derrieres.

The only real challenge is lighting. The Yosemite Valley washes out quickly as the sunlight hangs overhead. Try to shoot this area in early morning or late afternoon when the light is a bit less intense.

The Tunnel View pullout is easily accessible and just a short drive from Yosemite Valley accommodations. Take a shot at it on your way to Glacier Point before entering the tunnel or even on the way back from Wawona and the Mariposa Grove.
